The wonderful brain

Okay i've been a good girl reading my newsweek for one of my assignment, and here's one interesting article i came across.
Here's an abstract, (oh they say if you write it down you'll rmb better..so i am typing it.hehe)

Few laypeople understand taht neuroligoical nihilism and genetic determinism have been so discredited. Most still embrace the idea that our fate is written in our NDS, through the intermediateary of the brain wiring that DNA specifies.
"I's puzzling that determinism is so arractive to so amny people," say UCSF's Merzenich.
"Maybe it's appealing to view yourself as a defined entity and your fate is determined. Maybe it's in our nature to accept our condition."

There is an irony to that.WHen people believe that their abilities and traits are fixed, interventions meant to improve academic performance of qualities such as resiliece and openness to new experiences have little effect/ " But if you tell people that their brain can change, it galvanizes them." says psychologist Caol Dweck of Standford university.........
.."You see a rapid improvement in things like motivation and grades, or in resilience in the face of setbacks." Noe of that happens, or at least no as readily,in people who believe they are stuck with the brain they have.

(adapted Newsweek July2 issue)
SO BOTTOM LINE:
You're NOT stuck with the brain that you have! Your brin doesnt stop making new neurons!
